NEWS:

The Charlotte Observer.  The Charlotte Observer’s online presence, this is a great way to read about what’s happening in Charlotte, and search for jobs

Creative Loafing is a free weekly newspaper packed with all the things you can do and see in Charlotte in the next week. You can pick it up all over Charlotte at grocery stores, coffee shops and boutiques. The back half has lots of ads for upcoming shows, restaurants, and neighborhoods. Great for newcomers to browse through to get their bearings about fun places to eat & hang out.

The Charlotte Business Journal is published every Friday and is widely read by business leaders and those with business aspirations. You can pick up a copy pretty much anywhere uptown. This is a must-read if you are trying to get a job in Charlotte- find out about local companies, and start to understand how Charlotte really works.

Center City Partners is an uptown group that promotes all types of activities uptown, from restaurants to festivals. They have a calendar and a printable map of uptown on this site.

Arts & Science Council.  Most Charlotte arts organizations are part of the Arts & Science Council. Visit this site to search for upcoming events or to learn about all the organizations in Charlotte offering cool things to do and see.

FOR KIDS:

Discovery Place Discover Discovery Place! This science museum, located uptown on the corner of 7th Street and Tryon Street, is one of the biggest attractions for kids of all ages. If you have school-age kids, don't miss it!

ImaginOn ImaginOn opened in 2006 as a joint venture between The Public Library of Charlotte and the Children’s Theatre, so ImaginOn is both a library and a performance space. The architecture is fun and playful, and it is uptown within walking distance of restaurants and other arts venues. Kids love climbing on the sculptures out front, and having lunch at Reid’s Fine Foods next door is a treat.

Carowinds Kids all over North Carolina look forward to the spring opening of Carowinds. Roller coasters, a huge water park, rides and attractions make this a must-see for the young at heart. Click here to check out season passes and park hours.

SPORTS:

Carolina Panthers Go Cats! Charlotte is home to the Carolina Panthers. Our very own NFL franchise plays at Bank of America Stadium uptown. Click here to find the schedule of games, stock up on Panthers gear, and find out how to get inside & tour the stadium.

NBA Charlotte Bobcats Go ‘Cats! A brand new, state-of-the art basketball arena opened in 2006 in uptown. The first concert held there was the Rolling Stones. National Whitewater Center “Take it outside” at one of Charlotte’s newest attractions: the home of the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Open to the public and free of charge, visitors can walk around the whitewater course, watching rafters and kayacks ride the rapids. It is also home to the country‘s largest outdoor climbing wall, and kids as young as 4 can attempt to scale it. There is also a restaurant and snack bar. 10 minutes from downtown Charlotte. CULTURE:

The Mint Museums Charlotte has many world-class cultural amenities. The Mint Museum of Art and the Mint Museum of Craft and Design are two of the best. Click here for directions and upcoming exhibits.

Blumenthal Center Located uptown on the corner of Tryon Street and 6th Street, the N.C. Blumenthal Performing Arts Center is Charlotte’s premier location for national touring Broadway Productions, as well as all types of local performances. The Blumenthal is connected to the Bank of America Corporate Center, so make sure you stop by to see nationally-renowned local artist Ben Long’s murals in the lobby.

Charlotte Museum Located just a few minutes from uptown, the Charlotte Museum of History features a historic homeside, acres of beautiful grounds, and rotating exhibits in the main building. Click here for directions and upcoming exhibits.

Museum of the New South The Levine Museum of the New South is uptown on 7th Street right next to 7th Street Station parking deck. This is a must-see for newcomers to Charlotte - learn how and why Charlotte was founded, and how it has changed and grown into the city it is today.
